Drainage and Flood Control System

The city streets account for a total road  network of 37,302 kilometers. The existing drainage system, which runs parallel along both sides of the streets, is only 20,942.45 linear meter, which is still inadequate. Due to the lack of good drainage system majority of the city streets are easily flooded during heavy rains.

Dipolog City=92s common drainage ditches are poorly maintained, making some canals unserviceable during rainy season. Drained water from Estaka district runs towards the Dipolog River. Water from market site, Barra District and Central Barangay drains towards the Sulu Sea. Among the poorly drained and water logged areas in the poblacion are the barangays of Estaka, Biasong, and Barra districts. These barangays will experience floods when heavy rains occur.

The Dipolog River also threatens the poblacion with its floodwaters. In 1972, after prolonged heavy rain due to a typhoon, Dipolog River overflowed, flooding he barangays and some of the poblacion areas. The center areas of the poblacion escaped destruction with the river control protecting the urban core. At present, the Dipolog River Control runs approximately 1,012.50 meters, but there is still a need to extend the protection further to the mouth of Dipolog River. Correcting its course can hasten the discharge of the river.

Isabel is undertaken by the office of the City General Services, consisting of 22 personnel divided into 4 groups with one truck assigned to each group. Collection of garbage is done 2 times a week with the exception of the Public Market, Hospital and Slaughterhouse, which is done daily. Average volume of daily refuse collected is 70 cu.m.
