Katkat Saripisyo During the observation of Holy Week which usually falls on the month of March or April, it has been the scenario in the City of Dipolog that people are too spiritual and some are trying to refrain from going out from their houses to have fun and go to disco clubs. This is not an unusual situation in the city knowing that more than two-thirds of the population of Dipolog is Roman Catholic. That is why during Lenten season, Dipolognons working in other cities and provinces in the country are going home to observe the Lenten Season together with their families and love ones to join Dipolog’s yearly activity which is in line with the observation of the Holly Week dubbed as “Katkat Sakripisyo”. Katkat Sakripisyo is a religious re-enactment of Christ passion, suffering and death through the traditional Way of the Cross every Good Friday. This is done at the 3003 steps of Linabo Peak which is one of the favorite destinations in the city situated in Barangay Lugdungan, the city’s highest mountain overlooking Dipolog and Dapitan, the twin cities of Zamboanga del Norte and its neighboring towns. This year’s Katkat Sakripisyo was successful in fact, hundreds of Dipolognons patiently climb the 3003 concrete steps especially those Catholic devotees who are performing their traditional penitential rites together with some of the foreign tourist who are fascinated in witnessing Filipino’s way of observing the Lenten season. |
