DIPOLOG’S CHILDREN CHOIR SINGS SONGS OF HOPE AND PEACE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
Talents and dedication overcome boundaries and territories, this was proven by Dipolog’s Bantay-Bata Children’s Choir when the 30-member choir won the third place in a national choir competition sponsored by the Christian Children’s Fund (CCF) – Philippines held in Manila last May 2003.
The children sang their hearts out to interpret the winning composition of a 12-year old CCF child who hails from Lucban, Quezon – entitled Kabataan ng Kapayapaan (Children of Peace). The said piece was specially arranged by Arnel del Pano for the children’s choir competition where the local choir of the city bested several numbers of award-winning performers from different cities throughout the Philippines.
The children sing and express their dreams and aspirations for a nation where adults and children enjoy peace and people who care for the environment not only for themselves to enjoy but for the coming generations as well.
The national choir competition for this year carries the theme: “Life is a Journey, a Journey of Peace (Alay ng Bata sa Kapayapaan ng San-Nilikha)
The Batit-Anay Children’s Choir of Sorsogon City won second place while the San Nicolas Parish Center Choir of San Nicolas, Batangas emerged as the National Champion.
The choir brought hope and smiles to the faces of audience an earned their respect as they interpret the contest piece “Kabataan ng Kapayapaan” with their well-applauded warm-up song under the baton Mrs. Malaya Ajero, a music teacher from Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School.
Maria Saturnina Laudiooc-Hamili, the National Director, CCF-Philippines:; “The CCF Philippines, together with its 50 NGO and Parent Association partners over the Philippines support and nurture the values of love for life in all its forms. Children and youth, in particular have been provided with opportunities to express their thoughts, ideas, aspirations and dreams for themselves, their families, their communities and for creation. The children participate in creative activities depending on their interest and natural talents. These are in the form of drawings, theater and drama, dancing, singing and now in participation in a children’s choir”.
The national Choir Competition was one of the avenues to express children aspirations to attain peace and security amidst poverty, conflict, and disaster.
