For decades, Christmas is still going
strong and I am delighted to discover that Dipolog City’s
Christmas tradition is sturdy and much more emphasized each
year. Some things
changed for good, some stayed the same.
But what I will tackle today is one that some Dipolognon
all around the world would miss.
Family
members around the globe celebrate their Christmas back home.
A tradition no Dipolognon would miss.
Even actor superstar Matt Ranillo and family come home to
Dipolog City just to celebrate Christmas.
An event no Dipolognon would neglect, though the clan now
is spreading across the country and many children have
respective families and kids of their own.
For
two fun-filled weeks they go recount the events of the past
year, play basketball, softball, tennis, etc.; they go outdoors
swimming and picnicking on the beach, make-up indoor games, and
of course, eat, eat, eat…
As
tradition means more, it really is neat to see how strong family
ties is and how well everyone gets along.
Complete
with roasted pigs, assorted main dishes such as beef teriyaki
steak, kaldereta, embutido, mechado, halang-halang, etc., with
dinuguan at puto, bico at kape, suman at chocolate, ubing halaya,
etc.
The
old-fashion Christmas Festival is still the same with fruitcakes
and pastries for dessert. But
what would Christmas be without the ever crunchy, freshly picked
green mangoes topped with seasoned hot bagoong?
One
thing that would clearly never change is how much the family
members enjoy their time together because two weeks is not long
enough time to be together on Christmas Eve. |
