BAMBOOCRAFT INDUSTRY IN DIPOLOG

  

While the wood-based industries recently experienced a steep-sloped downtrend or slump due to the imposition of the government of total log ban, the domestic market for furniture and woodcraft items is mow expected to be arrayed with finished products made from competent raw material, which is – bamboo. Given the abundance of barangay products in barangay Sicayab, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte, it is just timely it to these invaluable resources and processes it to its most profitable forms and has a share in both the local and national products.

Recent Awareness of the people of barangay Sicayab to tap their abundant supply of bamboo led to the extension of technology package on bamboo craft industry through an intensive training conducted by the local office of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Office in the past the inhabitants of the place merely use bamboo material and even for fuel.  In an economic point of view, this method of use is just as good as wasting.

    Historical Backround

In recent year, bamboo and its derivative products had created international reputation as many as many countries had cultured this versatile grass for its great economic potentials.  International trade fairs and expositions had showcased different product lines made of bamboo, and with quality of being strictly observed, its competence and appropriateness in highly urbanized cities is very satisfactory.


The Bamboo Tree

A project study by is conducted by some interested individuals regarding the bamboo craft industry.  They proposed that some experts for the design and other-related bamboo craft making must conduct an intensive training for the direct labor.   As well as for their exposure in other abundant species of bamboo: spiny, bayug, anas, kilig, bikal, mangnaw and buho .

   The general aim  and objective

The general objective of the project is to institutionalize an effective process within the private sector for devel opment of small and medium-scale agro-industrial business or enterprise in the countryside. The bamboo craft project specifically aims to pool a group of already organized individuals who are also potential industry experts in the target “area” or location aimed at providing financial support and technical advisory or consultancy services to these small and medium-scale agro-industrial entrepreneurs in several areas in Dipolog City as well as the province of Zamboanga del Norte.

    Bamboo craft’s production and technical aspects

The project study conducted made the “same individuals” discussed the step-by-step process of bamboo craft making.  From the selection of raw materials possible:  young, broken and very irregular polls should be rejected.  In the actual production, it is considered those four (4) days as the total effective working days and the rest of the days for other–related activities or they (the workers) may take days off. 

The said production practice saves a lot of money and time for the company.  Since the computation for the raw materials and factory supplies release based on four days computation and salary disbursing.

     As for its channel of distribution

Souvenir outlets, furniture stores and other strategic outlets in Dipolog City and other places in Mindanao shall be its channel of distribution.  Later, if the business venture would attain significant profit and recognition it must be distributed nationwide and internationally as exports.

Those interested financiers of this endeavor may find that this lucrative-potential venture worth of their and money.   So far, the local government encouraging financiers to feel free to orient themselves to possibilities of profit as well as hopeful for the growth and progress this venture may attain.
