An $ 8.1 million-fund was recently allocated for the improvement of the Dipolog Airport slated to commence late this year as part of the Third Airport Development Project of the government.

Engr. Agnes P. Udang, airport manager said the fund was part of the, more than, $ 100 million-loan from the Asian Development Bank, European Investment Bank and the National Government. The other airport which can benefit from the said fund include those located in the cities of Cotabato, Pagadian, Butuan, Puerto Princessa and Tawi-tawi.

In Dipolog City, the airport will have an extension, widening and upgrading of the runway and its strip. There will also be an upgrading of the apron and connecting taxiways including additional taxiway of the shoulders, removal of obstacles, improvement and expansion of the landside road system and expansion of car park and construction of fences.
Also included is the construction and repair of sea walls, advancement of the terminal building, expansion of the tower block and rescue building including the construction of the powerhouse.

Still included in the program is the construction of navigational and airfield ground lighting system and replacement of the tower equipment.
Said project, is geared towards enhancing main airports, which are considered as prime entry points to the different parts of Mindanao.

Engr. Udang pointed out that as soon as the necessary infrastructures will be in place, marketing programs should be undertaken to help boost the economy of the city and province of Zamboanga del Norte.
