The
corporation started as a fifteen-bed general hospital in a
two-hectare lot of the once marshy and rustic atmosphere at
Sta. Filomena, Dipolog City. The corporation was conceived way
back on March 20, 1972 by fifteen (15) Dipolognons Medical
practitioners and Monsignor Felix S. Zafra, former Archbishop
of the diocese of Dipolog, by pooling their resources and
expertise together. It was envisioned to provide the best
medical service delivery to the people at reasonable rates.
After more than two (2) years of its conceptualization and
stages of planning, the hospital operation finally started its
delivery services on August 1, 1974.
Following
the full operation of the hospital, the members of the
corporation thought of establishing a school of midwifery. It
took almost two (2) years when the Bureau of Higher Education,
now the Commission on Higher Education gave the approval for
the school to open a Midwifery course beginning school year
1977-1978.
After
several years of service to the community, the new management
felt the need of training young men and women coming from the
two (2) cities of Dipolog and Dapitan and the province of
Zamboanga del Norte for the nursing profession. Hence, through
the concerted efforts of the Chairman of the Board, Atty.
Alberto P. Concha and Hospital Director, Dr. Stephen Yap, they
worked for the opening of the new revised Bachelor of Science
in Nursing (BSN) curriculum. Thus, the permit was granted by
the Bureau of Higher Education, now Commission on Higher
Education, Department of Education, Culture and Sports on
April 30, 1991 to open the first year level of the College of
Nursing.
The
school was then known as Dipolog Medical Center College of
Health and Sciences, offering only medical courses to the
community.
In 1998,
that name was changed to Dipolog Medical Center College
Foundation, Inc. Along with the change of the name of the
school comes the offer of non-medical courses like Bachelor of
Science in Secondary Education, Bachelor of Science in
Criminology, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology,
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Bachelor of Science in
Commerce, Bachelor in Computer Science, among others. Thus,
the name Dipolog Medical Center College Foundation since the
college have expanded its educational services to the
community by not only offering medical courses but also
non-medical courses.
The
College offer of medical courses have also expanded by
offering not only Nursing and Midwifery but also Physical
Therapy, Medical Technology, Radiologic Technology and others.
