Every
third Saturday of May, the Dipolog faithful to the Catholic
traditions celebrates its fiesta to celebrate the annual feast
of the city’s Patron Saint,
Saint Vincent Ferrer. This year, the city ensures that the
celebration of the fiesta will be colorful and fun-filled.
For this, the holding of Pagsalabuk 2002 takes
center stage as it was held on the eve of the fiesta on May 24.
When
city councilor Alton Ratificar was interviewed personally by The
Daily Dipolognon, the accommodating councilor explain the
changes the street dancing festival occurred after its creation
on 1999, “Karong tuuiga gipaningkamotan nato na malahi na
gyud ang Pagsalabuk. Last
year, the dances were of European-inspired karon gisugurado namo
na Lumad steps and dances would prevail”, say Ratificar.
The
street dancing started past more than one hour late from its
previously announced time it would have started around 1
o’clock. But the
failure to start was attributed mostly to the heat by the
scorching heat of the afternoon sun.
For
this years’ contest, there was only five contingents, namely:
Gata Cultural Dance Troupe of the Jimenez, Misamis Occidental (a
visiting contingent) Sangguniang Kabataan ng Barangay Biasong
and Barangay Council, Tribu ni Tino of the municipality of
Manukan; Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Estaka; and,
Sangguniang Kabataan ng Central Barangay.
Judges
had a hard time of deciding who should be declared as winners
that they had to make two announcements of final results. The
first prize for the contest of PhP 50,000 goes to the visiting
contingent, the Misamis Contingent.
The second prize of PhP 30,000 goes to the Central
Barangay Contingent and the third prize goes the Barangay Estaka
contingent that went home with PhP 20,000.
