The contingent from Baybay Sicayab made good account for themselves in winning the grand prize of P15,000 in the Dipolog City Sinulog last January 25.

Placing second was the team from Barangay Miputak while completing the top three is the group of Singles for Christ. Miputak received P10,000 while the Singles for Christ got P5,000.

The three other teams which failed to place including Biasong Chapel, Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School (DPDS) and the Gulayon Chapel.

Moreover, selected as the Most Participated, and Most Lively and Colorful was Barangay Miputak while Sicayab was adjudged as the Most Disciplined and Organized, and Most Unique. The Most Ethnic minor award was secured by DPDS.

The Sinulog was organized by the Parish Pastoral Council in devotion to Señor Santo Niño.

The Dipolog City Council recently approved a resolution asking Mayor Roberto Uy to declare every last Saturday of the month of January to be the “Sinulog Day.”

The councilors have agreed to formally declare, through an executive order, that the last Saturday of this January would be the time for the city to celebrate Sinulog, which is already a 13-year tradition of Dipolog.

Councilor Cesar Romero, the city council’s majority floor leader, is the author of the resolution. Romero said that his act does not go beyond the boundary of the separation between the government and the Church because this does not affect any policy of both institutions.

Romero added that this would help the city’s tourism with an exact schedule for the Dipolog Sinulog. This way, the councilor said, tourists would then be aware that the celebration of Sinulog in the Orchid City is every last Saturday of January.
